What should I do if the roots of air plants turn black? Finding the cause is the key!

Causes of blackening of roots:

No matter how strong the air plant's adaptability to the environment is and how vigorous its vitality is, it will still suffer from some diseases, such as blackening of the roots, which is also the most common symptom in cultivating air plants. The main reason for its blackening is overwatering. Some friends may ask, how can a plant that relies on air to survive be watered? In fact, watering means spraying water on the air plants, and if the amount of water sprayed is too much and the humidity is too high, it is easy to make the roots turn black;

Some friends like to equip the plants with a very beautiful container, but for the air plant, this is like putting it in a closed environment. Although it does not rely on roots to absorb nutrients, over time, its roots will gradually turn black because it cannot breathe fresh air.

Remedies for blackening of roots:

Cut off all the blackened parts of the roots of the air plant to prevent it from spreading further. When watering (spraying) daily, be sure to use the right amount. You can use a spray method to water. Air plants do not absorb nutrients through roots, but through leaves. If the amount of water is too large, the leaves will no longer absorb nutrients, which will cause the roots to turn black and rot.

Air plants are not suitable for cultivation in containers and can be grown directly on flower racks. Similarly, if you find that it has turned black, you should cut it off first.
