What to do if clematis withers

What to do if clematis withers

Reasons why clematis wilts

The reason why clematis wilts may be that the air is too humid, leading to mold. Therefore, wilting is more likely to occur when it is rainy, humid, or warm.

However, it is difficult to detect the wilting of clematis in advance, after all, it is impossible for us to keep an eye on it all the time. Prevention is still possible and can prevent clematis from withering to a certain extent.

First of all, when raising plants, you must be careful when applying fertilizer and try not to apply it to the root system to avoid rot and mold. The second thing is to spray some fungicides. In early spring, when wilting occurs for a long time, you can spray some fungicides such as carbendazim on the clematis to prevent wilting. Improving ventilation in the environment and keeping the air flowing can also reduce the occurrence of mold.

Another point is to choose suitable and good varieties when picking flower seedlings. This will make the plants healthier.

How to deal with the withering of clematis

Clematis wilt often occurs, but many times it is not fatal.

If only a few branches of the clematis are withered, it is relatively simple to deal with. Just trim the branches from the blackened points and the rest can grow normally.

If the clematis plant is severely withered, it needs to be pruned extensively. After all the branches are cut off, the roots are retained and new branches can grow again.

You don’t have to discard all the cut branches. You can choose semi-lignified branches that grow well and use them for cuttings.
