Causes and treatments of yellow leaves of Catharanthus roseus

Causes and treatments of yellow leaves of Catharanthus roseus

1. Soil issues

Reason: It does not have very high requirements for soil, except for saline-alkali land. If it is planted in alkaline soil, its leaves will turn yellow and it will not bloom.

Solution: The pH value of the soil for planting needs to be tested first. If the soil is alkaline, you can change the soil to acidic, humus-rich, loose soil. Alternatively, you can add ferrous sulfate solution to the soil, which can both acidify the soil and increase its fertility.

2. Improper watering

Reason: Catharanthus roseus is afraid of moisture and waterlogging. If you water too much, it will affect the breathing of the roots, causing the old leaves to turn yellow and the new leaves to turn tender yellow. If you water too little or the water is not thoroughly applied for a long time, the plant will not be able to absorb enough water and the leaves will turn yellow and fall off.

Solution: If excessive watering causes yellow leaves, stop watering and place the plant in a ventilated place to dry out the excess water in the pot. When yellow leaves are caused by insufficient watering, water needs to be added in time. After that, the amount of watering needs to be strictly controlled. It is better to keep it dry, and attention should be paid to drainage during the rainy season.

3. Excessive fertilization

Reason: If too much fertilizer is applied, it will be difficult for Catharanthus roseus to absorb it completely, causing fertilizer damage. Fertilizer remains in the soil, always surrounding the roots, causing the entire vinca plant to wilt, grow slowly, and have yellowing leaves.

Solution: Stop fertilizing immediately and increase watering to dilute the excess fertilizer in the soil. When fertilizing Catharanthus roseus, you can adopt the method of alternating the application of compound fertilizer and liquid fertilizer, and it is not advisable to fertilize at will. Watering the plants the next day after fertilizing can promote nutrient absorption.
