Why are the leaves of the creeping grass wilting?

What causes the leaves of the creeping grass to wilt?

Frostbite

The creeping grass is resistant to high temperatures but not low temperatures. It is dormant in winter and its leaves will show signs of yellowing. If you apply fertilizer or water at this time, the plant will be frozen and the leaves will wilt.

However, as long as the leaves are not shriveled but just turn yellow or white, it is a normal state for the creeping grass in winter and small buds will grow next year.

Root rot

If the leaves of creeping grass wilt in spring, summer and autumn, you should consider whether it is due to improper fertilization causing root rot.

After the roots rot, the plant cannot breathe normally, nutrients and water are not supplied, the leaves will turn yellow and even wilt.

Pests

After ruling out frostbite and root rot as causes, the wilting leaves of the creeping grass may be infested with insects. Some insects will hide in branches or in the soil, making it impossible for you to detect them, and then they will destroy the plants unscrupulously.

If the leaves wilt severely, check for insect pests in time.

What to do if the leaves of creeping grass wilt

Thermal insulation

To prevent the leaves of creeping sedge from wilting in winter, flower lovers can take protective measures to keep warm. Flower lovers in the north can move the creeping grass to a heated indoor place to overwinter. Flower lovers in the south can place the plants in a place with slightly stronger light to slightly increase the perceived temperature of the plants, and cover them with thermal insulation film at night.

Root treatment

If the leaves of a plant wilt, you should look for the cause at the roots. Pull out the plant, clean the rotten parts of the roots, cut off the black rot parts, dry them in a ventilated and cool place, and then replant them.

Insecticide

If aphids, scale insects or butterfly eggs invade the leaves, you must kill the insects in time using carbendazim or thiophanate-methyl. The branches and leaves where insects have crawled can be reluctantly cut off to prevent the insect eggs from breeding again.

Remove the leaves

Wilted leaves of the creeping vine should be cleaned up in time, and branches with problems should be cut off in time. After the plant recovers, new branches will slowly grow. So don't damage the entire plant just for a few wilted leaves, as that would be counterproductive.
