Potato disease control

Potato disease control

1. Major diseases of potato

1. Late blight

This is a devastating disease that can occur in both the seedling and mature stages. In the early stages, dark green spots will appear on the edges of the leaves. If the environment is relatively humid, the disease will progress rapidly and may even cause the leaves to die. If the disease occurs on its tubers, only spots will appear at first, but slowly as the climate changes, the spots will become dry and hard when the climate is dry, and will rot when it is wet, which will have a serious impact on the production of potatoes.

2. Early blight

This disease also occurs throughout its entire growth period. When affected, its leaves will turn black and develop obvious spots. In severe cases, the leaves will turn brown and then die. If its petioles and stems are affected, the lesions will appear oblong and dark brown in color. If potato tubers are affected by this disease and the environment is humid, they will become moldy and deteriorate.

3. Ring rot

This disease is most likely to occur when flower buds appear on potatoes. In the early stages of the disease, wilting will occur and the leaves will curl up, as if they are lacking water, and then the entire plant will slowly die.

2. Prevention and treatment methods

1. When planting, you must choose varieties with good disease resistance. Never select seeds from areas affected by diseases. You must strictly select them before sowing. Take out the diseased potatoes and throw them away, and then disinfect the remaining good seed potatoes. This will prevent the chance of potato disease in the later stage from the root.

2. During the planting period, be sure to choose good soil and apply enough base fertilizer, so as to provide sufficient nutrients for its growth and improve its disease resistance.

3. During the daily maintenance and management process, you can also choose some low-toxic and low-concentration agents to spray to prevent the occurrence of diseases.

4. If the disease has occurred, the affected plants must be burned in time, and the diseased potatoes must be dug out and thrown away to avoid the spread of the disease.

5. When the disease is serious, it is necessary to promptly select pesticides according to different diseases to prevent the spread.
