How to propagate sunflowers by cuttings? Can they be propagated by cuttings in winter?

1. How to propagate sunflowers by cuttings

1. Prepare cuttings: Sunflower is also called half-branch lotus. If you want to take cuttings, choose a potted plant with strong growth, prepare a clean pair of scissors, cut 10-15cm long branches from the mother plant, and then use scissors to cut it into several small sections of 3-5cm.

2. Prepare the soil: Sunflowers are not picky about the soil. They can even grow in garden soil dug outside. You can mix the soil according to the ratio of garden soil: coal slag: chicken manure = 5:4:1.

3. Start cuttings: Then water the soil thoroughly and insert the trimmed sunflower cuttings directly into the moist soil. If you want to increase the survival rate of sunflower cuttings, you can place the cuttings in a cool and ventilated place to dry for half an hour.

4. Maintenance after cutting: After the cuttings are completed, place them in a place with diffuse light and good ventilation. Then observe that the soil surface turns white and water them thoroughly. After the plants show obvious growth trends, move them to a place with full sunlight. If there is sufficient light, they will fill the pot in a month.

2. Can sunflowers be propagated by cuttings in winter?

Whether sunflowers can be propagated by cuttings in winter depends on the temperature and light of maintenance. If the perennial sunflowers are placed in a heated room and the light conditions at home are very good, then cuttings can be taken. If the indoor temperature is low and the light is poor, wait until next spring to take cuttings, otherwise the sunflowers will find it difficult to take root and may easily die.
