Common diseases of Oxalis purpurogenum and their control

Common diseases of Oxalis oxyphylla

Common diseases of purple-leafed Oxalis include leaf spot, root rot and gray mold. Let us look at the symptoms and prevention methods of these three major diseases.

Diseases and control of Oxalis purpurogena

Leaf spot

This type of lesion usually occurs from early May to early September. When purple-leafed Oxalis is infected with leaf spot disease, irregular lavender spots will appear on the leaves. Later, the spots will turn yellow-brown and gradually expand, and the leaves will become dry and shrunken. You can choose 70% methyl thiophanate at a 1000-fold dilution, which is suitable for use in the early stages of the disease. You can also use 500 times diluted carbendazim and spray alternately. At the same time, we must strengthen field management, promptly remove dead leaves and weeds, and apply fertilizer and water reasonably.

Root rot

Root rot is more likely to occur in a hot and humid environment. When this type of disease occurs, the roots will shrink, the plant will grow worse and worse, the leaves will turn yellow, and the taproot will slowly turn dark brown and rot. In the early stage of the disease, you can use 500 times diluted thiophanate-methyl, and in the later stage, you can use 1000 times diluted thiophanate-methyl or 700 times diluted thiophanate-methyl. Usually, you should pay attention to cleaning the cultivation site, applying fertilizer properly, and keeping the soil moist.

Botrytis cinerea

Gray mold is often prevalent in early spring or in low temperature and high humidity environments. The infected leaves will begin to develop yellow-brown water-soaked spots, which will slowly dry up the leaves, damage the bulbs, and even cause the entire plant to die in severe cases. You can choose a combination of thiabendazim and chlorothalonil-methyl powder and spray it alternately 2-3 times. In the early stage of the disease, 500-800 times diluted carbendazim can be used for prevention and control. In normal times, it is necessary to ensure proper field management, maintain good ventilation between plants, and plant at a reasonable density. Water frequently after the disease occurs.
