Common diseases of gardenia and their prevention and treatment methods

Common diseases of gardenia and their prevention and treatment methods

symptom

Leaf spot is a disease caused by fungi, which mainly harms the leaves of gardenia. When the disease occurs, circular spots with a diameter of 2 to 4 cm will appear on the plant, which are yellow-brown in color, and many small black spots will appear on the edges of the leaves. A humid environment in which gardenias are located will increase the chances of this disease occurring.

Prevention and treatment measures

During maintenance, pay attention to ventilation and light transmission, water appropriately, and reduce air humidity. If conditions permit, the plant can be placed outdoors for maintenance.

In the early stage of the disease, remove the diseased leaves in time to prevent infection. Separate infected gardenias from other plants to prevent further infection.

When the disease occurs, spray Bordeaux mixture or mancozeb solution once every 7 to 10 days. It can be cured after 3 to 4 consecutive sprays.

Gardenia yellowing disease

symptom

Gardenia chlorosis is a physiological disease that harms the leaves of gardenia. When the disease occurs, the leaves gradually turn yellow, the plant growth slows down, and gradually wilts.

Prevention and treatment measures

If you find that the plants are turning yellow, you can spray the leaves or water the roots with 0.2-1% ferrous sulfate solution. The concentration can be adjusted higher when watering the roots. The best time for spraying is in the morning after the dew has dried up, and then expose to the sun after watering (spraying). If the plant is severely yellowed, spray it once a week, but control the spray concentration to avoid burning the roots. After a period of time, the leaves of the plant will gradually turn green and return to normal.

To prevent the plant from yellowing, you can preventively spray 4-5% ferrous sulfate solution during the growth period of gardenia from April to August each year.

Gardenia sooty mold

symptom

Sooty mold mainly occurs between branches and leaves. When the disease occurs, brown and white spots will appear on the branches and leaves, the branches stop growing, and the plants gradually wilt.

Prevention and treatment measures

When the disease occurs, scrub with clean water in time to wipe off the white fungus on the branches and leaves. Or spray 1000-1200 times concentration of carbendazim and Baume lime sulfur mixture for comprehensive prevention and control.

Gardenia rot

symptom

Gardenia rot disease mainly harms the main trunk of gardenia. When the disease occurs, the stems below the main trunk of the plant will become enlarged and cracked, and the trunk will gradually shrink and rot.

Prevention and treatment measures

Prune in time after the flowers fall and remove the withered branches. And thin out the branches to reduce nutrient consumption and promote the growth of the trunk.

If stem rot is found, scrape off the rotten part in time and apply 5-10 degree lime sulfur mixture several times.
