How to deal with root rot caused by too much water? Why do flowers always have root rot?

1. How to deal with root rot caused by excessive water

Overwatering or too much water in the pot will cause the roots of the plant to rot. How to deal with root rot caused by excessive water can be divided into two situations: the roots are not completely rotten and the roots are rotten and cannot be replanted. Then, deal with them separately according to the degree of rot.

The roots are not completely rotten

You can cut off the rotten roots and replant. The specific operations are as follows:

1. Remove the plant from the pot, find the rotten roots, and cut off the rotten roots from the base with sterilized scissors.

2. Use 0.1% potassium permanganate solution to disinfect the wounds of the plants, or apply clean wood ash to the wounds, and then repot and replant.

3. When potting, fill the wounds and severely damaged parts of the roots with clean wet sand, and then add new planting soil to promote the growth of new roots in the wounds of the plant.

4. When repotting, it is necessary to prune the branches and leaves over a large area.

5. During the plant's recovery process, ensure that the soil in the pot is breathable, do not apply fertilizer, and do not expose it to rain to prevent root rot.

The roots are rotten and cannot be replanted.

It can be propagated by cuttings of branches and leaves. The specific operations are as follows:

1. You need to remove the diseased plants first, rinse the soil around the roots, and use a sharp knife to remove all the rotten parts.

2. Soak the base of the stem in 0.1% potassium permanganate solution for about thirty minutes. After taking it out, apply charcoal ash on the wound to prevent corrosion and infection, and then place it in a ventilated place to dry slightly.

3. The cultivation soil for replanting should be fully mixed with fine river sand, garden soil and rice husk ash, then thoroughly disinfected with boiling water, and used after cooling, which is conducive to the regeneration of new roots of diseased plants after planting.

4. When placing the plant into the pot, press the part that is entering the soil with your hands to ensure that the base of the stem is in close contact with the soil. After that, keep the temperature within 20-25 degrees and the soil in the pot slightly moist. Do not water the plant unless the soil is dry. New roots will generally form in about 40 days.

2. Causes of root rot

1. Overwatering: Excessive watering is the main cause of root rot in plants. Some drought-resistant plants are most afraid of waterlogging, which can cause their roots to lack oxygen and lead to root rot. Also, in winter, some plants are in a dormant period and their transpiration is slow. If the amount of watering is not controlled in time, water accumulation and root rot are likely to occur.

2. Poor water quality: Hydroponic plants have higher water requirements. If the roots rot, it is mostly due to poor water quality and a large number of microorganisms in the bottle, which cause the plant roots to be infected and rot. Moreover, microorganisms will compete with plants for oxygen, causing the plant roots to lack oxygen and rot.

3. Bacterial infection: Too many microorganisms in the potting soil can also cause plant root rot. So try to use cleaner water and fertilizer.

4. Poor soil permeability: Poor soil drainage and poor air permeability can easily cause the soil to become compacted. Once the soil becomes compacted, the roots of the plants will not be able to breathe smoothly, their growth will be hindered, and the roots of the plants will rot.
