What is the cause of Impatiens root rot?

1. Excessive watering

Reason: Excessive watering will affect the growth of the roots and cause water accumulation. Once water accumulates, root rot is inevitable.

Solution: Watering must be moderate, not excessive or too frequent. Especially during the dormant period of Impatiens, the amount of watering must be controlled, and watering must be done only after the soil becomes dry.

2. Poor soil permeability

Reason: If the soil is not air permeable, the roots will be unable to breathe and absorb nutrients, and the roots will rot. If there is water accumulation in the potting soil and it cannot be drained, it will also cause root rot.

Solution: Replace the soil with one that is breathable and well-drained, which will allow its roots to breathe normally and drain the accumulated water in the potting soil faster.

3. High Fertilizer Concentration

Reason: If the concentration of fertilizer is too high when fertilizing Impatiens, the roots will be burned and the root system will turn black. In severe cases, the entire plant will die.

Solution: Control the amount of fertilizer and do not apply too high a concentration. Apply thin fertilizers frequently. If you apply too much fertilizer, increase the amount of watering to allow excess fertilizer to flow out as soon as possible. When root rot is discovered, the rotten roots should be cut off in time to avoid harming more roots. Then the roots should be disinfected and replanted.
