Causes and solutions for root rot of Chinese evergreen

Causes of root rot

Too much watering

The Chinese evergreen likes a humid environment and does not need too much water in an environment with high air humidity. If you water too much at one time, it will cause poor breathing of the roots and lead to root rot.

Temperature is too high

The temperature must also be controlled when growing Chinese evergreen. The most suitable growth temperature is 20~25℃, but the temperature is too high in summer and the sunlight is strong. If appropriate cooling measures are not taken, the stems and leaves will turn black, leading to root rot.

Improper fertilization

Chinese evergreen requires a lot of fertilizer and water. When applying fertilizer, be careful to avoid the root system to prevent the fertilizer from burning the roots and causing root rot.

Diseases

Root crown rot is one of the diseases that are prone to occur in Chinese evergreen. It must be treated in time, generally by spraying with 1000 times diluted 50% carbendazim wettable powder.

Poor water quality

Evergreen can be grown hydroponically, but attention should be paid to the water quality. If the water becomes sticky, it needs to be cleaned and replaced with clean water, otherwise the roots of the Evergreen will be contaminated and rot.

Root rot treatment method

The treatment should be based on the degree of root rot of the Chinese evergreen. It can be treated as shown in the picture below. If the root rot is severe and the stems and leaves are rotten, there is nothing that can be done.

First, take the Chinese evergreen out of the pot, rinse it, cut off the rotten parts, and then dry it in a cool and ventilated place for 1 hour. Wait for the wound to heal, and then put it into moist soil (pure sand, perlite, etc. will do). In fact, you just need to re-graft the unrotten parts.
