Causes and treatments for yellowing leaves of magnolia

Causes and treatments for yellowing leaves of magnolia

1. Unsuitable soil

Reason: Magnolia is a plant that needs to be grown in soil, so whether the soil is suitable for its growth conditions has a great impact. If the soil is alkaline, severely compacted, and has poor drainage, it is not suitable for growing magnolias. Wrong soil selection can seriously hinder its growth, as it will be difficult to absorb nutrients, causing the plant to become malnourished and its leaves to turn yellow.

Measures: You can change the pH of the soil by applying vinegar or ferrous sulfate, making the soil more suitable for the growth of magnolias. You can also dig out the plant directly and replant it in well-drained, slightly acidic sandy soil.

2. Insufficient light

Reason: Magnolia loves sunlight. Only when there is sufficient light can it grow fast and well. If there is too little sunlight in its maintenance environment, it will easily lead to poor growth of magnolia. It will be difficult to grow flower buds, the leaves will turn yellow, and even flowering will be affected to a certain extent.

Measures: Magnolias can be moved to places with better lighting conditions such as courtyards, balconies, gardens and windowsills to ensure that they can receive sufficient sunlight. But also be careful to block strong direct sunlight in midsummer.

3. Temperature is too high

Reason: Magnolia has relatively high temperature requirements for its growth. Temperatures that are too high or too low are not conducive to its growth. Too high a temperature will accelerate the evaporation of water, resulting in a shortage of water and causing the leaves to turn yellow.

Measures: When the temperature is too high, be sure to move the magnolia to a cool place with good ventilation to enhance air permeability. And you can spray water to lower the temperature and increase the humidity.
