The leaves of Daphne odora turn yellow: causes and remedies explained

The leaves of Daphne odora turn yellow: causes and remedies explained

1. Reasons

1. Soil alkalinization: Osmanthus fragrans grows better in acidic soil, but if the soil is alkaline, its leaves will gradually turn yellow. You can also test whether the soil is alkaline yourself by digging out a little soil and adding some vinegar. If bubbles and a hissing sound appear, the soil is alkaline.

2. The temperature is too low: Its cold resistance is relatively weak, and it is usually necessary to keep warm during the winter. If the temperature in the breeding environment is relatively low and the plant is frozen, its leaves will turn yellow.

3. Too much water will cause root rot: This is a plant with fleshy roots, so do not water it too much in daily life. Too much water for a long time will cause root rot, which will also cause yellow leaves.

II. Remedies

1. Change the potting soil: If the problem is caused by alkalinity of the soil, it should be replaced with acidic soil as soon as possible. If you don’t want to change the soil, you can add an appropriate amount of ferrous sulfate solution to the potting soil, and the soil will slowly become acidic.

2. Pay attention to heat preservation: If the temperature is too low, place it in a warmer room as soon as possible. If the indoor temperature is not very high, you can put a plastic bag on the plant, which can also provide a good effect of keeping out the cold.

3. Prune rotten roots: After its roots have rotted, it should be removed from the old pot as soon as possible and the rotten roots should be cut off. It is best to disinfect it before replanting it. It will take some time for it to heal.
