How to grow peanuts

How to grow peanuts

Peanut is one of the four major oil crops in the world. Peanut oil is a good edible oil and many people grow peanuts at home. If you want to grow peanuts, how do you grow them? Let’s learn how to grow peanuts.

1. Planting time

The climatic conditions in different places are different, so spring sowing and summer sowing are generally adopted. Spring sowing starts in late March, and sowing starts in late April in places with low temperatures. Summer sowing should be no later than June 15th.

2. Land preparation

Choose loose, deep, sunny, neutral or slightly acidic soil to plant peanuts, and combine it with land preparation to apply enough fertilizer for the peanuts throughout their lifetime. Apply 2000-3000 kg of soil and miscellaneous fertilizers and 25 kg of phosphate fertilizer per mu.

3. Seed treatment

Before sowing peanuts, dry the seeds in their shells on a sunny day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for 1-3 days. Before sowing, mix the seeds with 0.3% of multi-bacterium flexibly. Then soak the seeds in warm water at about 35 degrees for 2-4 hours to germinate.

4. Sowing depth

The sowing depth of peanuts is generally controlled at about 5 cm. After sowing, cover with 3 cm of fine soil. Do not cover with large pieces of soil, otherwise it is easy to sprout or even fail to sprout.

5. Field management

During the growth period, it is necessary to carry out inter-row cultivation and weeding in time to reduce the competition between weeds and peanuts for nutrients. At the same time, pay attention to the prevention and control of diseases and pests, such as leaf spot, rust, aphids, etc. Once pests and diseases are discovered, timely measures should be taken to prevent and control them to avoid affecting the yield and quality of peanuts.

6. Water and fertilizer management

Peanut fertilization should follow the principle of "promote at the beginning, control in the middle, and supplement at the end". Before sowing, apply sufficient base fertilizer, mainly organic fertilizer , with appropriate amounts of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. During the growing period, topdressing should be carried out according to the growth conditions of peanuts and soil fertility. At the same time, proper watering is also crucial. Peanuts are sensitive to water demand, especially during the flowering and pod-setting stages, and the soil must be kept moderately moist.
