What to do if the tips of bamboo leaves turn yellow

What to do if the tips of bamboo leaves turn yellow

Moisture Management

Bamboo likes a humid environment but is afraid of waterlogging. Excessive watering will make the roots unable to breathe, which may cause root rot and cause the leaves to turn yellow.

Correct watering method

The soil should not have too much moisture when transplanting, but you should pay attention to spraying water on the leaves. When the bamboo lacks water, the leaves will curl slightly. At this time, you should water it in time. After the water is replenished, the leaves will quickly stretch out. Pay attention to adding more water in hot summer weather and water less in winter to prevent ice from forming in the pot.

Fertilizer management

Insufficient nutrition for the bamboo or too much fertilizer leading to fertilizer damage may cause the bamboo leaves to turn yellow.

Correct fertilization method

When transplanting, be sure to mix base fertilizer into the soil. After the bamboo has grown into a seedling, pay attention to topdressing. Based on the principle of "applying small amounts of fertilizer frequently", apply compound fertilizer in spring and summer to maintain nutrient supply. If there is fertilizer damage, fill the pot immediately to dilute the fertilizer concentration or wash away the fertilizer. If necessary, dig out the bamboo and clean the roots.

Poor ventilation

If the distance between bamboos is too close, or bamboos are placed in a poorly ventilated area, the carbon dioxide concentration around the bamboos will be too high, and the photosynthesis efficiency will be low, which will also cause the bamboo leaves to turn yellow.

Correct ventilation method

Bamboo planted in the courtyard should be placed near a wall that is well ventilated and can receive sunlight; if it is a potted plant, it should be placed near a window so that it can receive sunlight and ventilation at the same time.

Pests

If bamboo is attacked by red spider mites, the leaves will easily turn yellow. The red spiders' mouthparts pierce into the leaves and suck juice, causing the chlorophyll to be destroyed. The leaves will show gray-yellow spots or patches, eventually causing the leaves to turn yellow or even fall off.

Correct insect prevention method

Check the leaves more often, especially the back of the leaves. Once red spider mites are found, remove them in time. If they have reproduced in large numbers, you can spray the pesticide dimethoate to kill the pests.
