What to do if the leaves of the money tree turn black

What to do if the leaves of the money tree turn black

Causes of blackening

Frost damage

The incubation period of frost damage to the money tree is relatively long, and there is no way to detect it in time. It may take half a month to detect it. If there are only a few leaves, you can just cut them off in time.

Brown spot

The most common disease of the money tree is brown spot disease, which manifests itself as the appearance of round or oval spots, which are purple-brown and later turn black. In severe cases, the leaves may even turn yellow and fall off. This disease is spread by pathogens in dead leaves or soil through wind and rain, and often occurs in the summer when there is high temperature, high humidity and insufficient ventilation.

Improper watering

Excessive watering will cause waterlogging in the soil of the money tree, lack of oxygen in the roots, and blackening of the leaves.

Improper lighting

Money tree is afraid of light, so be sure to avoid direct sunlight, but also make sure to ensure sufficient light.

Insufficient fertilizer

If fertilizer is applied improperly, especially when there is insufficient fertilizer, it can easily cause a lack of nutrients in the soil, resulting in insufficient nutrition for the plant and its leaves, which will cause the leaves to turn black.

Prevention and treatment methods

Brown spot

Appropriately spray 600-800 times diluted 50% carbendazim wettable powder, 0.5-10% Bordeaux mixture or 1000-1500 times diluted 50% mancozeb, or 900 times diluted 25% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder once a week, two or three times will be enough. In addition, reduce humidity and water with carbendazim solution when dry.

Watering and lighting issues

In summer, you should follow the principle of watering when the soil is dry, watering again when it is completely dry, and watering thoroughly when you water. In winter, you only need to water the plants after one month. In addition, you need to move the plants to a place with sufficient light to control the moisture, then cut off the blackened leaves and spray them with chlorothalonil.
