What to do if the leaves of the Chinese Fortune Plant turn yellow and curl

The pineapple flower is what we often call pineapple flower, and the flowers bloom at the top or middle. The flowers and leaves of the lucky tree are lush, the flowers are bright red, and it has a festive atmosphere. Because its top is full of red flowers, it is named after the idiom "Hongyundangtou", which means good luck, and most people believe that Hongyundangtou is an auspicious and noble flower.

The yellowing of the leaves of the lucky plant is mostly due to environmental reasons. It likes a warm and humid environment. The suitable growth temperature is 15℃ to 22℃. It is suitable for cultivation in loose, fertile, humus soil, with at least 4 hours of light a day and sufficient fertilizer to be healthier.

When the leaves of the lucky bamboo shoot turn yellow or curl, you should consider whether it is caused by one or more of the following factors.

Temperature is too high or too low

The lucky charm plant lives in a warm and humid environment. The suitable temperature for its growth is: 21-28℃ during the day, 18-21℃ at night, and the maximum temperature cannot exceed 35℃.

High temperature is not conducive to the growth of the lucky charm plant, but long-term exposure to a 10°C environment can also easily cause the plant to grow slowly, and the leaves or bracts to turn red or white, or become discolored. At this time, antifreeze and anti-cold agents should be sprayed to prevent the temperature from continuing to drop and causing plant death.

Over- or under-watering

Although the lucky plant likes a humid environment, you only need to keep the soil in the pot moist on weekdays, and generally do not water it on rainy days.

When caring for the plant at home, it is best to use water that has been dried rather than directly using tap water for watering.

The lucky charm plant is a flower that is pleasing to the eye as well as its leaves. It is best to spray clean water on the leaves once a day to remove dust and make the leaves bright. It is also beneficial for photosynthesis and promotes healthy growth of the plant.

If you water too much and the soil in the pot is too wet for a long time, it will cause oxygen deficiency in the soil and eventually lead to root rot. Since it hinders normal respiration and the absorption of water and nutrients, it will cause the leaves to turn yellow and fall off. After being infected, the young leaves first turn light yellow, and then the old leaves gradually turn yellow. In this case, you should immediately control watering, stop fertilizing, and loosen the soil frequently to ensure good ventilation.

However, if you miss watering or only water halfway for a long time (i.e. wet on the top and dry on the bottom), it will affect nutrient absorption and easily cause the leaves to become dull and wilt. First, the old leaves at the bottom age and gradually turn yellow and fall off from bottom to top. At this time, you need to water and spray a small amount to allow it to gradually recover before returning to normal watering.

The air humidity should be high, preferably kept at 75-85%. When it is lower than 50%, the plants will experience phenomena such as leaf shrinkage and curling.

Improper fertilization

The flowering period of the lucky charm plant is in winter. Sufficient fertilizer is required during the flowering period. Usually, a thin organic liquid fertilizer is applied once every two weeks, such as bean cake, sesame paste residue soaked liquid (concentration of 20%), soybean soaked liquid or fermented rice water can also be used.

When insufficient fertilizer is applied, the pot will lack nutrients such as nitrogen, resulting in weak branches and leaves and thin and yellow leaves. It is necessary to turn the pot over in time, replace it with new loose and fertile culture soil, and gradually apply thin and well-rotted liquid fertilizer or compound flower fertilizer. If too much fertilizer is applied, the new leaves will become thick and uneven, and the old leaves will become dry, brown and fall off. At this time, you should stop fertilizing immediately, increase the amount of watering, so that the fertilizer flows out from the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot, or immediately turn the pot over, rinse the soil with water and then replant it in the pot.

Lighting not up to standard

In order to make the leaves of the lucky plant bright and bloom regularly, light is very important. It needs at least 4 to 5 hours of direct sunlight every day in winter. On rainy days, you can use lights to increase the lighting. In summer, the seedling pots should be placed in the shade of trees, and shade nets can be set up as needed for indoor cultivation.

Soil quality

The lucky charm plant is best suited for growing in loose, fertile, humus soil. For home cultivation, you can mix 2 parts of peat soil with 1 part of fine sand to make the culture soil. Generally, the soil bought from the flower market is suitable for plant growth. When you add soil to it later, you should pay attention to the soil quality.

Pests and diseases or improper control

In an environment with excessively high temperature or humidity and poor ventilation, the lucky charm plant is prone to disease and insect damage. At this time, the leaves are also prone to showing signs of yellowing or curling. However, if too high a concentration of pesticide is used to prevent and control pests and diseases, or if the plant is polluted by toxic gases in the atmosphere, or if cold water is suddenly poured when the temperature is high, it can easily cause the leaf tips or parts of the leaf surface to turn yellow and wither, or even cause the entire plant to die. Therefore, we should pay attention to the rational use of pesticides and try to eliminate the sources of air pollution.

Inappropriate placement

Try to avoid placing the lucky charm plant near air conditioning vents or TVs, as excessive radiation may cause its leaves to become diseased.

In addition, some friends have found that the lucky tree is no longer red. The flowering period of the lucky tree is generally in winter and spring. If the flowering period is over, it is normal for the flowers in the middle to become lighter in color and gradually wither. When encountering this situation, you can cut off the middle heart and cultivate the side buds around the old seedlings. When they grow to more than one foot long, gently break them off with your hands and re-pot them (use Xiaopeng, humus soil or peat soil). Afterwards, when watering, make sure to water the center of the leaves until the center of the leaves is full.

The lucky charm plant is an indoor ornamental flower in winter and spring. It is evergreen all year round, with beautiful and colorful inflorescences. However, it is not ruled out that the leaves may turn yellow or curl. When encountering such problems, refer to the above causes to see if you can solve the problem of yellowing (curling) leaves of the lucky charm plant.
