Reasons why rose leaves turn yellow

Reasons why rose leaves turn yellow

Causes and solutions

Improper watering

If the young leaves are dark yellow and dull, the old leaves have not changed significantly, the branches are thin and yellow-green, and the new shoots grow abnormally and shrink, it means that the plant is overwatered.

The plant needs to be removed from the pot and placed in a ventilated and cool place, and then put back into the pot after the soil has dried.

There is a difference between yellowing caused by too little water and too much water. The yellowing caused by too little water is manifested as dry and withered leaf tips or edges, and the old leaves turn yellow and fall off from the bottom to the top, while the growth of new leaves is relatively normal.

When watering, remember to "don't water unless the soil is dry". Water thoroughly to ensure there is enough moisture.

Improper fertilization

It is best to apply light fertilizer frequently in the early growth stage, mainly using compound fertilizer, using the method of hole application or watering.

Avoid applying uncomposted organic fertilizers and large doses of chemical fertilizers, as these two fertilizers will burn the roots, causing the plants to wilt and die.

Viral yellow leaves

If the roots and branches of the rose are attacked by viruses, this symptom will appear. The leaves will appear stiff and yellow, appearing to lack vitality.

For prevention and control, you can spray solvents such as Virus Killer and Virus Dew, but comprehensive maintenance and management should be the main focus. Healthy plants will have stronger resistance.

Improper repotting and soil replacement

Although repotting and changing soil sounds simple, it is not easy to ensure that the roots are tightly combined with the soil. You can use a thin wooden stick to help compact it or gently tamp it. Choose decomposed fertilizer for base fertilizer, and keep it as far away from the roots as possible to avoid direct contact with the roots.

After repotting, you should water it thoroughly immediately and keep it in a cool place. Water it a second time when the soil in the pot is slightly dry. After that, follow the same principle of "don't water unless the soil is dry".

No fertilizer is needed within a short period of time after repotting, and it should be applied at least three weeks later.

When changing the soil, if there is lime powder or the soil is too acidic, it will also cause the leaves to turn yellow. If you don't want the roses you grow to turn into yellow-faced roses, then follow the above aspects to carry out effective maintenance and management, and you will surely let the green return to the branches and leaves.
