The reasons and prevention of yellowing leaves of crape myrtle

The reasons and prevention of yellowing leaves of crape myrtle

Reason 1: Aging

The first reason why the leaves of crape myrtle turn yellow is that the plant is undergoing normal metabolism. When going through this process, the leaves of the plant itself will gradually turn yellow and fall off due to the natural consumption of nutrients. This is a normal phenomenon in the growth process of crape myrtle.

Solution: There is no need to worry about this situation. Just continue to take normal and reasonable care of the crape myrtle and you will be able to get through it safely.

Reason 2: Overwatering

Crape myrtle is relatively drought-resistant. Excess water causing moist soil and waterlogging will make it difficult for the root system to absorb sufficient oxygen, causing it to become weak. As a result, nutrients cannot be transferred to the leaves, causing the leaves to turn yellow.

Solution: The principle of "not watering unless the soil is dry" needs to be adhered to at all times, especially in the rainy season, effective drainage measures should be taken to avoid root rot.

Reason 3: Powdery mildew

Powdery mildew is a disease that most plants will suffer from during their growth, and crape myrtle is one of its more important targets. The leaves of crape myrtle attacked by powdery mildew will gradually turn yellow and eventually fall off, seriously affecting the growth of the plant and the normal ornamental effect of the crape myrtle.

Solution: First of all, daily maintenance work should be done well. Healthy growth can improve the disease resistance of the plant. To prevent the disease during the growth period, you can spray 500 times of 80% concentration of mancozeb wettable powder, 1000 times of 70% concentration of thiophanate-methyl, 1500 times of 20% concentration of triadimefon (i.e. triazole) emulsifiable concentrate and 800 times of 50% concentration of carbendazim wettable powder.
