Key points for grape planting in high temperature and high humidity areas

The southern region is the main grape producing area in China, but the high temperature and humidity in the southern region make it easy for improper grape planting and management to reduce production and quality. Let’s take a look at the key points of grape cultivation in high temperature and high humidity areas.

1. Planting period

Choose a field for planting. The field can be near a rice field or a dry field. The land should be prepared one month before planting. Planting is done according to the specification of 0.5*2.2 meters between rows and plants, with 500 plants planted per mu.

2. Seedling selection

Choose sturdy seedlings. The thickness of the transplanted seedlings must be above 0.5cm, and the thicker the better. The thickness of the transplanted seedlings should be between 2.5cm and 4cm. It uses a double cross "V" shaped frame, simple rain shelter facilities, and a double-tube drip irrigation mode, and was completed in February.

3. Fertilization

When new shoots and tendrils grow out, fertilizer should be applied every three days using rotted human and animal manure mixed with twice the amount of water. Keep one strong shoot for each plant and remove the rest.

4. Structural training

The new shoots are tied upward with small bamboo poles or ropes. When the new shoots grow to 65cm in length, they are topped. The whole plant is sprayed with a growth-enhancing agent mixed with water to control the shoots and promote the nutrient conversion of the grape seedlings. Urea plus humic acid nutrient solution is applied to the underground part through a drip tube to promote the healthy growth of the root system. About 10 days after topping, two strong summer bud side shoots are selected and the rest of the summer bud side shoots are all removed.

When the secondary shoots grow to 5 buds, pull them flat in opposite directions, tie them to the first layer of wire of the "V"-shaped frame, and remove the tops; spray the whole plant with growth enhancer plus potassium dihydrogen phosphate diluted with water to control the shoots and promote the transformation of grape nutrients.

5. Fertilization management

Choose the appropriate amount of fertilizer: for fertile rice fields, apply 1 ton of high-quality chicken manure per mu, and for dry land , apply 2 tons of high-quality chicken manure per mu. The annual fertilizer usage per mu is: 110 kg of triple compound fertilizer , 50 kg of calcium fertilizer, 50 kg of magnesium fertilizer, 3 kg of boron fertilizer, 30 kg of potassium fertilizer, and 30 kg of seedling-promoting fertilizer.

6. Pruning

In summer, pruning is done by leaving 8 leaves on the fruiting branches and pinching off the top. Except for the top tip, all other side tips are left with single leaves and then pinched off or removed. The new shoots upwards are left with 3 leaves and pinched off to form a structure of 8+3+3 main functional leaves to ensure sufficient leaf area to meet the nutritional needs of the grapes. Conventional pruning is used in winter.

7. Foliar fertilization

During the seedling stage, spray the whole plant with 1300 times diluted sea green manure and 2500 times diluted dwarfing agent to wet the entire leaf surface and back, making the leaves greener and larger, and the internodes shorter. During the rest of the period, add 500 times potassium dihydrogen phosphate each time spraying in combination with pest and disease control to promote healthy growth of the tree.
