How to judge whether orchids are lacking water and how to deal with water shortage

1. How to judge

1. Weight of the flowerpot: When the orchid is short of water, the overall weight of the flowerpot will become very light, so you can judge whether the plant is short of water by the weight of the flowerpot. You can weigh the flowerpot after watering the orchid, and then weigh the flowerpot before watering each time to determine whether it needs watering. When the flowerpot feels light when you pick it up, you can suspect that the plant is lacking water.

2. Observe the leaves: If the leaves become less upright, gradually bend, and look lifeless, it may be caused by lack of water in the plant. Generally speaking, if the water shortage is not serious, the drooping arc of the leaves will not be very large, and it is difficult to detect. However, when water shortage is severe, the curvature of the leaves will be more obvious. In addition, when orchids lack water, their growth will be affected, the glossiness of their leaves will decrease, and the surface will become dull.

3. Observe the soil in the pot: You can judge whether the pot is lacking water by whether the soil in the pot turns white. Alternatively, you can insert a bamboo stick into the pot at an appropriate position and pull it out after a while. Judge the water content in the orchid potting material based on the moisture level of the bamboo stick. If the bottom four or five centimeters of the bamboo chopsticks are still moist, there is no need to water them. Otherwise, they need to be watered in time.

2. How to deal with it

If the water shortage is not serious, the plant can resume normal growth by simply replenishing water in time. If the water shortage is severe, empty roots will appear at the base of the orchid. You need to dig out the plant, cut off all the empty roots, sterilize the whole plant, soak it in rooting agent solution, then change the soil and replant and maintain it.
