Cymbidium orchid cultivation methods and precautions

Cymbidium orchid cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

When growing Cymbidium orchids, you must use loose, breathable and fertile soil. Its roots can breathe better and absorb nutrients and water in such a soil environment. You can prepare the soil yourself by mixing leaf mold and river sand. You can also buy special nutrient soil at a flower shop.

2. Nutrients

Part of the nutrients can be obtained from the substrate, and in the later stage, nutrients must be supplemented by topdressing. Only with sufficient nutrients will its roots and stems become thicker and its leaves greener and thicker. Normally, you can use fertilizers mainly composed of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to make the stems strong and improve their disease resistance.

3. Lighting

It likes sunlight and can adapt to short-term direct sunlight, but the light in summer is too strong and must be avoided in time, otherwise the leaves will be sunburned. If it is a potted plant, you can place it in a place with sufficient scattered light and provide more light. Sufficient light is needed for normal flowering.

4. Watering

It likes a humid environment but is afraid of waterlogging, so do not water it too much and there should be no accumulation of water in the soil. Water in small amounts each time to keep the soil moist. If the amount of water is too large, the soil in the pot will accumulate water and the roots will rot easily, resulting in many poor growth phenomena. In addition, the climate in summer is relatively dry, so you need to spray water frequently.

5. Notes

During maintenance, pay attention to the placement location, ensure ventilation in the placement area, and open the windows frequently. If it is in a hot and stuffy environment, it is easy to be infected by insects and diseases, and the leaves are prone to turn yellow.
