How to raise pearl birds and precautions

The pearl bird is petite in size and can be held in the palm of your hand. Its dark eyes stare at you, as bright and dazzling as black pearls. Such a petite bird is easy to make people love it. Let's talk about the breeding methods and precautions of the pearl bird.

1. Bait management

In the daily life of feeding pearl birds, shelled millet should be the staple food. You can also feed it with a mixture of 10% li seeds, 30% millet, and 60% barnyard grass. During the breeding period and young birds, feed them egg millet and increase the supply of fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables . Some mineral feed such as gravel, shells, cuttlefish bones, etc. should also be added as appropriate.

2. Breeding environment

Pearl birds are very timid animals and are afraid of people. They are easily frightened when they see people, so the environment for raising pearl birds should be quiet and they should not be frightened. So it’s better not to raise them in groups. The cage for raising pearl birds is 35 cm high, 30 cm long and 25 cm wide, and is enough to house a pair.

3. Temperature management

Pearl birds like water baths, and the water temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius. Except for the brooding period, an appropriate amount of water should be supplied to the pearl birds for water baths. The most suitable temperature is 25 to 20 degrees Celsius. It should not be lower than 5 degrees Celsius in winter. It should be kept warm at night to facilitate the growth and development of the pearl birds.

4. Breeding and hatching

After the pearl bird completes its nest, it will mate several times within a week. After the pearl bird successfully pairs up, it will lay 4 to 6 small white eggs in the nest in about a week. The male and female birds will take turns incubating, with the female bird taking the main role in incubating. The incubation period is 14 days, with a fluctuation of 2 to 1 day due to the large climate difference between the north and the south. Keep the environment quiet in the sun, avoid too strong light, and do not move the nest box or pet easily.

5. Breeding box settings

A breeding box should be set up inside the cage of the pearl bird. It can be a larger breeding box. Put some cotton and nesting grass in the breeding box. There should be a small platform outside the exit, which can also be replaced by a gourd or a bamboo tube.

6. Young bird management

After the pearl bird chicks hatch, their bodies are bare and covered with a small amount of white fluff. The male and female birds will spit out the semi-digested food to feed the chicks. At this time, the chicks can be fed with weak egg millet with a ratio of less than 15% eggs. After 21 days, the young birds leave the nest and learn to fly. After two or three months, the black color of their beaks begins to fade from the base of the nose, and they reach sexual maturity. After five months, they are capable of reproduction and can reproduce all year round if raised.

The pearl bird is small and cute, with a clear voice. It is a bird that many netizens like to raise. Coupled with its very high breeding rate, it can also bring more bird-raising friends to experience the joy of bird breeding.
