How to plant pepper seeds?

Peppers are primarily propagated by seeds, which is a very common planting method . Before planting, you should purchase high-quality pepper seeds and then do the correct sowing work to ensure high yields in subsequent pepper plantings. So how do you plant pepper seeds? Let’s learn more about it below.

How to plant pepper seeds?

The method of planting pepper seeds is relatively simple. First, soak the pepper seeds in clean water for five hours, and then soak them in 1% copper sulfate solution for ten minutes. This can effectively prevent various soil diseases. Then take out the seeds, wash them with water, wrap them with a wet towel or wet cloth, and place them in a warm place. After about four or five days, the seeds will germinate. Be sure to prepare fertile and moist soil as a seedbed in advance, and then sow the germinated seeds. The suitable sowing time is generally between March and July.

How to quickly germinate pepper seeds?

1. Ordinary germination method

After soaking the pepper seeds, wash them repeatedly with clean water to remove the spicy taste. Then wrap it with cloth and place it in a pot, cover it with wet gauze, and control the germination at a temperature of 28-30℃. During this period, remember to wash it twice a day with warm water at about 30 degrees Celsius, and it will sprout in about 4-5 days.

2. Variable temperature germination method

It is to use alternating high and low temperatures to germinate. The method is to wrap the seeds with wet cloth and control the temperature between 28-30 degrees every day for 16-18 hours. To ensure that the seeds are heated evenly, they need to be turned and scrubbed about twice a day. When the seeds are almost germinated, they should be placed in a 10°C environment for low-temperature training.

3. Precautions for germination

(1) The germination of peppers has a high requirement for oxygen. The air permeability of the gauze must be increased to ensure that the oxygen content in the air is greater than 10%, otherwise it will not be easy to germinate.

(2) Depending on the number of pepper seeds, different germination tools can be selected, such as incubators, germination rooms, germination beds, etc.

(3) Turn the seeds frequently during germination and wash off the mucus with warm water every day. Otherwise, the air permeability of the seeds will be affected, causing the seeds to die from lack of oxygen.

(4) When about 80% of the seeds have shown white tips or exposed roots, stop germination and proceed to the next step of sowing.

(5) After all the buds emerge, if there are special reasons such as rain or snow, sowing needs to be delayed.

In general, the planting method of pepper seeds is relatively simple, but we must pay attention to the seed soaking and germination treatments in the early stage of sowing. This is the key to improving the germination rate of pepper seeds, and can also lay a solid foundation for subsequent high yields.
