When is the best time to plant yellow peaches?

Yellow peach is a fruit that many people like to eat. It is rich in vitamin C, sweet and juicy, and very popular. If you want to grow yellow peaches, when is the best time to plant them? Let’s take a look at the planting time below.

When is the best time to plant yellow peaches?

Yellow peach planting is generally carried out in spring and autumn. The spring planting time is from early February to early March. The autumn yellow peach planting generally starts in late October when the seedlings shed their leaves and ends before the soil freezes.

How to plant yellow peach

1. Garden construction

Yellow peaches are suitable for growing in areas with sufficient sunlight and low groundwater levels. The orchard should be built on areas with high terrain, good drainage, fertile soil and low groundwater levels. Sandy loam with a pH of 5 to 6 is best. When establishing a garden, the soil should be deeply plowed to a depth of 30 to 40 cm. Usually, 200-300kg of calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer or 1500-2000kg of decomposed farmyard manure is applied per 667m2. If the groundwater level is high, drainage ditches should be dug around the garden to prevent waterlogging.

2. Transplantation

Select high-quality and strong seedlings suitable for local climatic conditions, cut off excessively long roots, and plant at a depth where the grafting point is 3 to 5 cm above the soil surface. Follow the principle of "three burials, two treads, and one seedling lift" (i.e. bury the soil three times, tread it down twice, and lift the seedlings upward once) to ensure that the roots are in full close contact with the soil. After planting, the seedlings can be watered, and the soil can be added after the seedlings are straightened. Bamboo poles can be inserted next to the seedlings to tie them up. The planting density is generally 40 to 50 plants per 667 m2, and 80 to 100 plants can be planted per 667 m2 in barren mountainous areas .

3. Scientific pruning

After planting the seedlings, cut them 60 to 80 cm from the ground, leaving 7 to 10 plump leaf buds within 25 to 30 cm below the cut. At the same time, remove the shaped buds. Yellow peach has a strong sprouting ability, and the bud removal method is used to cultivate high-quality main and side branches during the young tree stage. When pruning the next year, all main branches and extension branches should be shortened to 60 cm. At the same time, the first-level side branches should be left 40 to 50 cm away from the main branches and shortened to 40 cm.

4. Fertilizer and water management

After the seedlings begin to sprout, in order to speed up the growth of leaves and shoots, nitrogen fertilizer should be applied once. Apply 20 grams of nitrogen fertilizer to all seedlings, and apply it again after one month. After the leaves fall in autumn, organic fertilizer should be used as the main base fertilizer, and 10 to 15 kilograms of organic fertilizer, urea and superphosphate should be applied to all seedlings. After the seedlings sprout, they are usually watered once a week, and then continued for 3 to 4 times. In autumn, the land should be deep plowed to a depth of 20 to 30 cm. Nitrogen fertilizer is usually applied before germination, with 30 to 40 kilograms of urea per mu. Apply nitrogen fertilizer in holes and dig 4 to 5 fertilizer holes with a depth of 20 cm for the seedlings. Mature trees should be watered as soon as possible in spring before they sprout to keep the soil well moist.

5. Pest and disease control

Adhere to the principle of "prevention first, comprehensive prevention and control", focus on physical and biological control, reduce the use of chemical pesticides , and avoid pesticide residues. In winter, you can tie grass to tree trunks to gather pests, and then burn the grass bundles before spring. Installing frequency-vibration insecticidal lamps can trap pests, and can also protect, breed, relocate and introduce beneficial insects and birds.
