Spinach planting time and planting method

Spinach planting time and planting method

Spinach , with its rich nutritional value and delicious taste, has become a green leafy vegetable widely favored by consumers. But to successfully grow spinach with high quality and stable yield, farmers must understand and master the appropriate planting timing and techniques. Let’s learn about the time and method of planting spinach.

1. Planting time

Spinach is a highly adaptable vegetable that can be grown in different seasons throughout the year by sowing. Spring spinach should be sown when the temperature is stably above 5℃, and March is the best time; summer spinach is suitable for planting between May and July; autumn spinach is best from August to September; and the sowing period for winter spinach is from mid-October to early November.

2. Soil selection

Spinach has a well-developed root system and requires fertile, well-drained soil. Adding an appropriate amount of coarse sand or coal ash to the soil can improve the soil's air permeability, facilitate seed rooting, and promote the healthy growth of spinach.

3. Seed selection

The quality of seeds directly affects the survival rate of spinach. Choose seeds within their shelf life and select suitable varieties based on local climatic conditions, seeds with heat-resistant or cold-resistant properties. Higher quality seeds generally have a higher germination rate.

4. Sowing techniques

Spinach is mostly sown by broadcasting. Before sowing in summer and autumn, the seeds can be soaked for more than 12 hours, then stored at 4°C for 24 hours, and then germinated in an environment of 20 to 25°C. After germination, they can be sown. In spring and winter, there is no need for these treatments. Just sow the seeds directly and sprinkle a layer of wood ash after sowing.

5. Sunshade and hydration

Water appropriately after sowing, avoid overwatering. When sowing in summer and autumn, cover the seeds with straw or shade nets to protect the seeds and keep the soil moist. In spring and winter, due to the low temperature, plastic film can be used to cover the seeds to maintain the temperature and promote seed development.

6. Fertilization strategy

Spinach grows quickly and will sprout about a week after sowing. When true leaves appear, clear manure water should be applied, and the amount of fertilizer should be gradually increased as the spinach grows. Spinach mainly uses farmyard manure. When it grows to more than ten centimeters tall, urea can be applied in appropriate amounts.

The above is the planting time and planting calcite for spinach. By following these planting steps and techniques, you can ensure the healthy growth of spinach and improve yield and quality.
