How to survive the winter of fiddle-leaf fig, wintering tips

1. Keep the environment warm

Ficus microcarpa does not like to grow in a too cold environment. If the ambient temperature is very low in winter, it is likely to be frozen and grow poorly. So in winter, you should pay attention to keeping it warm and try to keep it in a place where the indoor temperature is above 5℃.

2. Provide sufficient light

In winter, it is recommended to expose it to more sunlight. Because the light is relatively weak in winter, it is not easy to get sunburned. Moreover, more light can allow it to synthesize more nutrients, which is very beneficial for it to survive the winter. Specifically, it is recommended to provide it with more than 4 hours of light per day.

3. Properly control watering

In winter, be careful to control watering. Because the temperature is low at this time, its growth rate is relatively slow and it cannot absorb too much water. If you water too much, the excess water will accumulate in the soil, causing its roots to become waterlogged. Therefore, you need to reduce the frequency of watering and change it to watering once every 15-20 days.

4. Temporarily stop fertilizing

Also, because its growth rate is very slow in winter, there is no need to fertilize it during this season. Generally, the nutrients in the soil alone can meet its growth needs. If you apply fertilizer, it will cause root burn. You can stop fertilizing after winter, and resume fertilizing when the temperature rises to 10-15℃ next year.
