How to divide aloe vera

Aloe vera division time

Aloe vera is a herbaceous plant of the Asphalaceae family and the genus Aloe. It is generally divided in spring and autumn every year, specifically in March and April in spring and September and October in autumn. The survival rate of division is higher at this time.

Aloe vera division propagation method

The mother plant of aloe vera will produce seedlings, which can be dug out together with the roots. Cut off the underground stems connected to the mother plant and plant them in the soil after the wound heals. Keep them in a cool place and pay attention to ventilation. Do not water them too much and do not fertilize them at this time.

Aloe Vera Division Steps

Aloe vera division propagation is not limited to time or season and can be carried out at any time, and the survival rate of division propagation is relatively high.

1. Removing the aloe from the pot: Stop watering before dividing the aloe vera to make it easier to remove it from the pot. When removing the aloe vera from the pot, hold the root of the aloe vera with one hand, and then turn the pot upside down, so that the aloe vera can be easily removed from the pot.

2. Prune the roots: After removing the aloe vera from the pot, you will find that there are messy roots growing on the small side buds. At this time, you need to prune them to facilitate the removal of the side buds. First, clean the soil near the side buds, and then cut off all the old roots, weak roots and roots that are about to rot.

3. Division: You can dig out the seedlings with roots from the bottom of the aloe vera. Be careful not to damage the root system of the mother plant. Put them in a cool and ventilated place for a while. After the wounds are dry, you can plant them in the prepared pots.

Aloe vera is suitable for planting in loose and breathable nutrient soil. You can wet the soil to make it a little moist, so that the plant can quickly resume its growth. The plants after division are still relatively fragile. At this time, they should not be exposed to the sun. It is best to keep them in a semi-shaded and ventilated place.
