How to plant and care for lilies

Lilies are famous for their diverse colors, and many flower lovers have a special liking for growing lilies, but know little about how to care for them. In fact, caring for lilies is not complicated. You just need to prepare suitable soil, water them regularly, fertilize them appropriately, and pay attention to their growing environment. Let’s learn how to plant and care for lilies.

1. Lily maintenance tips

1. Soil selection

When caring for lilies, you should choose loose, well-drained and fertile soil, and avoid using heavy clay soil, which will affect the growth and flowering of lilies. It is recommended to use soil mixed with peat, river sand and perlite in a ratio of 2:2:1. This is not only suitable for the growth of lilies, but also increases the ornamental value.

2. Watering management

Lilies are drought tolerant and do not require frequent, heavy watering. In spring and autumn, water once every 5 days; in summer, due to the high temperature, water every other day; in winter, lilies enter a dormant period, so the frequency of watering should be reduced and watered only after the soil is completely dry.

3. Fertilization strategy

Lilies need to be fertilized frequently, and nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer or organic fertilizer should be applied once every half month in spring and summer. In autumn, gradually reduce the frequency of fertilization to once a month; no fertilization is required during the winter dormancy period.

4. Growth environment

Lilies need plenty of sunlight and the suitable growth temperature is 15-25℃. They need to be kept warm in winter and shaded and sprayed with water appropriately in summer.

2. How to reproduce lily

1. Seeding method

Spring is the best time to sow lilies. Choose high-quality seeds and sow them directly in suitable soil. Keep the soil moist and control the growth temperature at 12-15℃.

2. Division method

The survival rate of lily propagation by division is high and the operation is simple. When the lilies are growing well, the new shoots can be separated and re -potted .

3. Cutting method

The cutting method is more complicated. The bulbs are dug out in autumn, the scales are removed and dried, and then cut into river sand. The humidity is maintained and small bulbs are grown in spring and then separated and planted.

The above are the maintenance tips for lilies. Combined with the actual situation, I hope every flower lover can successfully cultivate beautiful and healthy lilies.
