How to repot ivy

How to repot ivy

1. Method of removing the pot

The first thing we need to do is to take it out of the pot. We need to control the time. Generally, we need to do this operation when the soil is relatively dry, because the soil is shrinking at this time, and it will be easy to fall out of the pot, and the soil will not disperse.

We need to use bamboo strips to remove the surrounding soil, and then cut off some old roots and some roots that are too long. If there are rotten roots, we should get rid of them. The roots need to be cut neatly, but the number of roots cut needs to be controlled well. You cannot cut off a lot of roots when there are only a few. When removing the soil, we must pay attention to leaving some soil with capillary roots, so that it will grow well after repotting.

2. Planting pad soil

Before transplanting, we need to put some debris or plastic mesh on the bottom of the pot so that it can be more permeable and breathable. If it is a larger pot, we can put more in, then cover it with coarse soil, and finally move the tree in.

During the transplanting process, we need to first put the soil we have prepared, then hold the plant with our hands, put it in and adjust the position, and finally tamp the soil. It is best not to leave gaps, otherwise there will be problems with subsequent growth. Generally, we use the original pots, unless they don’t fit in, we will change to bigger ones.

3. Hydration

After repotting, we need to add excess water for the first time so that its roots can better combine with the new soil. Then we have to wait until it dries up before adding water again.

When adding water, the old roots are damaged and the new roots have not yet grown, so we cannot water too much, otherwise the roots will easily rot. Generally, we can sprinkle some water on the leaves so that they can have water and the roots will not be damaged.

4. Spread moss in shallow pots and leave a "water outlet" in deep pots

If we use a shallow pot, we need to spread moss on it. If it is a deep pot, this is not necessary. This way, watering will not cause water loss.

5. Make good use of the culture soil

The soil must be relatively good in terms of fertility, air permeability, etc. We can prepare it ourselves or buy it.
