How to grow hydrangea in winter

How to grow hydrangea in winter

1. Keep warm

Hydrangeas cannot tolerate the cold, so in winter you must take measures to keep them warm. In northern areas, you must move them indoors in time and keep the temperature above 5°C. If it is in the warm south, you can put it in a sunny south-facing place and cover it with a plastic bag to keep it warm.

2. Plenty of Sunlight

In the cold winter, sufficient sunlight is an indispensable factor. It needs to be kept in a well-lit place. Sunbathing can promote growth and also increase the temperature of the plant. It cannot be kept in a dark place with poor light, as this will cause it to grow poorly.

3. Reduce watering

The temperature is generally lower in winter, the growth rate slows down, and the demand for water decreases, so watering should be reduced, as long as the soil is not too dry. The water temperature must be guaranteed to be good. First take out the water and wait until the water temperature is the same as the room temperature before using it for watering.

4. Reduce fertilization

In addition to reducing watering, fertilization also needs to be controlled. Fertilize once before winter to enhance the plant's resistance to cold. Growth is very slow in winter, so you need to reduce fertilization or simply not apply any fertilizer.

5. Pay attention to ventilation

Although hydrangeas are not cold-resistant, they cannot grow in a stuffy environment. If they are grown indoors, you can open the windows to let in some air at noon, and if they are covered with plastic bags, you can remove them at noon.
