Planting technology and cultivation of pitaya

1. Seed treatment

Prepare a dragon fruit, peel off the skin of the dragon fruit, take out the flesh inside and throw it into water, crush it with your hands to make a preliminary separation of the flesh and seeds, then use the rinsing method to filter out the large pieces of flesh, continue to rinse the remaining seeds until the white film on the seeds disappears, and place the seeds on a plastic cover to dry.

2. Sowing and Planting

Prepare the potting soil, spray the soil wet, then sprinkle the dried pitaya seeds evenly on the soil surface and lightly cover it with a thin layer of soil. Flower lovers who are not good at it do not need to cover the soil. Keep the soil slightly moist at ordinary times. After about 3 days, the pitaya will germinate one after another. After germination, it is necessary to expose it to the sun frequently to prevent the seedlings from growing too tall.

3. Branching and trellising

When the pitaya seedlings have grown fully in the pot, they can be transplanted into other pots. When transplanting by division, it is best to plant 2-4 seedlings in one pot. Later, through the process of survival of the fittest, only the strongest one will be retained. As the plant grows, a support should be set up in the pot to allow the dragon fruit to grow vertically.

4. Pruning and fertilizing

When the pitaya grows to 4-5 branches, prepare a clean knife and cut off the top 3-5cm of the branch to remove the apical dominance and promote rapid branching of the pitaya. You should also bury some bone meal, chicken manure, cake fertilizer and cooked fat on the edge of the pot to supplement nutrients for the pitaya.

5. Pollination results

When growing dragon fruit at home, make sure to expose it to plenty of sunlight and ensure that there is sufficient fertilizer and water. After the plant blooms, use a brush or cotton swab to dip the pollen on the stamens and touch the stigma on the pistil. After pollination, the plant will bear fruit. When the fruit grows and turns pink, it means that the dragon fruit is ripe and can be harvested.
