When is the best time to sow the red heart K?

Red Peach K is a tropical and subtropical plant. Its fruit is bright red and like fire, and its shape resembles a small dragon fruit . Its scientific name is Roselle , also known as Roselle. It is distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Taiwan, and Yunnan in China. So when is the appropriate time to sow Red Peach K? Let’s take a look below.

1. When is the best time to sow the Red Heart K?

When planting red peach K, it is best to do it from March to May each year, because the humidity and temperature at this time are more suitable, and the light time is longer, which is conducive to increasing the germination rate of red peach K. However, the specific planting time should be adjusted according to local weather conditions. It is best to plant red peach K when the weather is clear.

2. Cultivation technology of roselle

1. Soil selection

Roselle has strong adaptability and is resistant to barrenness and drought. It can grow in either clay or sandy soil, but prefers soil with good drainage, deep soil layer and fertility. Roselle can be planted in different soil types such as gravel sand, purple mud, red-yellow soil, and clay.

However, it is best planted in slightly acidic red soil. Even if planted in generally poor dry land and newly reclaimed land, a good harvest can be obtained, but there will be differences in the harvest and growth of the dry products of the plants. It is best to crop the same piece of land for two consecutive years. Continuous planting will easily reduce the yield and make the plants susceptible to disease.

2. Sowing method

There are usually two sowing methods for Roselle. One is direct sowing, that is, after burning the mountain and preparing the land, dig holes and sow directly. Before sowing, apply sufficient base fertilizer such as chicken manure and other farmyard manure in the hole, 1000-1500kg per mu, and 25-50kg of phosphorus fertilizer. Sow 3-5 seeds per hole, with a seed rate of 1-1.5 kg per mu, and cover with 2 cm of soil after sowing.

The second is seeding in the seedbed, that is, choose more fertile soil such as vegetable garden soil. The seedbed surface is 20cm high and about 1m wide. It can be sown by broadcasting or in rows, and the row spacing is 5×8cm. When the seedlings are 10-15cm tall, you can choose to transplant them in rainy weather.

3. Planting density

The planting density of Roselle should be based on the principle of dense planting on thin land and sloping land, and sparse planting on fertile land and flat land. Depending on the soil fertility, plant 1000-2000 holes per mu. When transplanting seedlings, leave two plants in lean soil and a single plant in fertile soil, and implement wide and narrow rows or single row strips sowing.

The spacing between rows and plants for single-row planting is 100×66cm for fertile land, with 1000 holes (plants) per mu; 66×80cm for medium fertile land, with 1000 holes (or 1250-1500 plants) per mu; and 66×50cm for thin land and hilly land, with 1000 holes (or 2000 plants) per mu.

4. Cultivation and seedling transplanting

During the growth period of Roselle, inter-row cultivation and weeding are carried out 2-3 times. The first time, when the seedling height is more than 10cm, it is carried out in combination with seedling replacement and thinning. The second time, when the seedling height is 30-40cm, it is carried out in combination with soil cultivation and seedling replacement. The third time is when flower buds begin to appear. During the flowering period, the roselle field should be kept clean and weeds should be removed.

When the seedlings grow to more than 10 cm and have more than two true leaves, thinning should be carried out, following the principle of pulling out the weak and keeping the strong, pulling out the small and keeping the large, leaving 2-3 seedlings in each hole. When the seedlings grow to about 20 cm, thin out the seedlings. In medium to fertile soil, leave one plant in each hole. In thin or broken soil, leave two plants in each hole.

5. Fertilization

It is better to apply fertilizer as early as possible. During the first tillage, use 8-10 kg of compound fertilizer , urea or ammonium sulfate per mu and apply it in holes 5-10 cm away from the eggplant plants. After the eggplant plants bud, if the seedlings are in poor condition, you can apply 5-8 kg of nitrogen fertilizer in combination with the second tillage.

6. Disease prevention and control

Roselle is generally susceptible to root crown rot, which will cause rot in the infected stems and, in severe cases, cause the entire plant to wither. In this case, you can use a mixed spray of 500 times dilution of thiophanate-methyl and 800 times dilution of carbendazim to treat it. Spray once a week for 2-3 weeks.
