What rootstock is used for grafting Christmas cactus? When and how to graft Christmas cactus

1. Grafted Rootstock

When grafting Christmas cactus, you can use the grass ball as the rootstock. The grass ball has strong adaptability and is very tough. However, there are also disadvantages. The growth rate after grafting is relatively slow, and it is difficult to shape it. We usually use cactus for grafting, which has a high survival rate and fast growth rate. In addition, you can also use leaf fairy for grafting, but it is easy to dormant when the temperature is low, and the flowering period of Christmas cactus is in winter, so it is best used in warm areas in the south.

2. Grafting time

It is recommended to graft in late spring or early autumn, specifically between May and June and September and October. The temperature and humidity at this time are very suitable and conducive to survival. Be careful not to do it too late, otherwise the temperature will be high in summer and the wound will be easily infected. The temperature is low in winter and it is difficult for wounds to recover.

3. Grafting Methods

The grafting method is very simple after choosing a good rootstock. For example, if you use a cactus as a rootstock, first cut it horizontally at the top with a knife, and make sure to disinfect it before use. After cutting, make another small opening where there is cambium, the size of which should be close to the size of the scion. After processing, cut the bottom of the scion to expose the white part. Finally, insert it into the processed small opening and secure it with a clip.

4. Post-management

If you want better survival after grafting, you should also pay attention to management methods. It should be placed in a ventilated place. Do not expose it to strong light or water it in a hurry. If the silver plant does not wilt after about 10 days, it means it is successful.
