How to manage chives after planting, suitable environment for chive cultivation

How to manage chives after planting, suitable environment for chive cultivation

1. Moisturizing and heat preservation

After planting the leeks, the local soil ditches in the greenhouse should be filled with grass or farmyard manure in time, and anti-cold ditches should be dug along the way. Be careful not to dig too large a cold-proof ditch; about 30 centimeters each will be enough. And fill the ditch with straw to avoid frostbite caused by low temperature. In addition, pay attention to the even laying of the straw mats on the top of the greenhouse, the length should be the base, and the gaps should be sealed with soil.

2. Get more sun

Light is the main factor for its healthy growth, so it must be exposed to more sunlight during management. The daily lighting time is guaranteed to be more than 12 hours. When the sun comes out in the morning, open the straw curtain, and cover it again after the sun sets in the afternoon. If there are continuous rainy days, artificial replenishment is required.

3. Timely topdressing

Chives are very resistant to fertilizer, especially ammonia fertilizer. Therefore, when applying fertilizer, not only farmyard manure should be added, but ammonium sulfate or compound fertilizer should also be added to it to meet the demand for fertilizer in order to promote growth and increase yield. It is recommended to do it together with watering so that it can be better absorbed.

4. Water appropriately

It requires a lot of water, and the humidity should be kept at around 65%. It cannot be too much, otherwise the soil will become compacted, which will hinder breathing and cause root rot or white tip phenomenon. Normally, watering should be determined according to the growth conditions and soil environment. Watering should be done once 10 days before harvest.

5. Cultivation time

It is a perennial plant and can be cultivated over a wide period of time, except in winter. However, the temperature in summer is too high and its growth is easily affected, so it is recommended to plant it in spring and autumn. In the northern region, spring can be chosen in March or April. The southern region is warmer, so it can be prepared earlier. Autumn is around October.
