Strawberry is a very common fruit. Its fruit is bright in color, soft and juicy, sweet and sour in taste, and rich in nutrients. It is known as the "Queen of Fruits" and has a very broad planting prospect. So which month is the best for growing strawberries? Let’s learn more about it below. Which month should strawberries be planted? The month in which strawberries are planted depends on their specific planting method. Usually, if strawberries are grown in a greenhouse , they can be grown all year round because they can control the suitable temperature and humidity. If strawberries are grown in the open field, it is recommended to plant them in March or April in spring. How to grow strawberries? 1. Greenhouse cultivation Before planting, apply 3000-5000 kg of organic fertilizer and 50-60 kg of triple compound fertilizer per 667 square meters. After plowing, high ridges are made with a width of 1-1.2 meters. Two rows are planted in each ridge with a row spacing of 25 cm and a plant spacing of 18 cm. Water sufficiently after planting. After the seedlings have grown, pick off the axillary buds, till the soil and loosen it , and cover it with plastic film in late October. 2. Open field planting Flat or raised ridges are used for planting, with row spacing of 20-25 cm and plant spacing of 15-25 cm. Generally, 4-5 rows are planted on a 1.0-1.2 meter ridge. Large ridge planting usually adopts double rows, with row spacing of 25-30 cm and plant spacing of 15-25 cm. When planting, you should first dig a hole that is larger than the root system so that the roots can stretch naturally. It is best to plant the seedlings as soon as they are dug up. If they can be planted with soil, the survival rate will be higher. 3. Planting matters (1) Choose strong seedlings: Regardless of the planting method, you must choose strong seedlings for planting. The standards for strong strawberry seedlings are dark green leaves, thick petioles, disease-free leaves, stem diameter of more than 1 cm, bright white roots, more than 10 thick and long roots, many fibrous roots, and full terminal buds. (2) Planting depth: The planting depth of strawberry seedlings should generally be about 1 cm from the soil surface. When planting strawberry seedlings, you must follow the principle of not burying the core too deep and not exposing the roots too shallow. (3) Reasonable density of planting: For varieties with compact plant growth and small crown diameter, the spacing between rows and plants should be smaller. For varieties with strong growth and large crown diameter, the spacing between rows and plants should be larger. For the same variety, within a certain range, the yield increases with the planting density. Generally, it is appropriate to plant 150,000 to 220,000 plants per hectare, and no more than 300,000 plants at most. (4) Timely replanting: It is recommended to replant strawberries 20 days after they are planted. Avoid high temperatures and strong light, the plants are not likely to wilt, which is conducive to survival. In general, there is no fixed requirement for the planting time of strawberries, and it can be determined according to the actual planting conditions and methods. However, more attention should be paid to planting matters, especially remembering to replenish seedlings in time after planting to preserve the seedlings and lay the foundation for high yields.
