Kumquat potted planting methods and precautions

Kumquat potted planting methods and precautions

Kumquat potted plants are both ornamental and edible plants, and are loved by everyone for their rich fruity aroma. However, potted kumquats are not easy to grow because they have high requirements for the growing environment.

How to grow kumquats in pots

1. Choice of pot: It is very important to choose a suitable pot for kumquat trees. Generally speaking, a larger pot with good air permeability is more suitable for the growth of trees. It can also avoid the phenomenon of tree dying when the tree is repotted after growth and development.

2. Soil planting: Potted kumquats are suitable for growing in acidic soil. The soil in the north is mostly alkaline. Therefore, if they are planted in the north, measures should be taken to add some acidic substances to improve the soil to acidic soil. Favorable soil conditions can promote the healthy growth of kumquat potted trees.

Kumquat potted planting method

1. Grafting: Potted kumquats are usually planted by grafting. The rootstocks are citrus fruit, sour orange or sowed seedlings. The grafting methods include branch grafting, bud grafting and approach grafting. Branch grafting is carried out in spring from March to April, and bud grafting is carried out from June to September.

2. Soil configuration: Kumquat likes fertilizer. When planting, choose fertile, loose, slightly acidic sandy loam with good drainage. You can use leaf mold, sandy soil, and cake fertilizer, mixed in a ratio of 4:5:1 to prepare the culture soil, and then insert the branches into the soil.

Precautions for potted kumquat

Pay attention to pruning potted kumquats. Prune them heavily before they sprout in spring. Cut off dead branches, diseased and insect-infested branches, overcrowded branches, and leggy branches. Keep 3-4 strong branches from the first year. Pay attention to proper flower thinning when they bloom to save nutrients and maintain a beautiful plant shape.
