April Fruit Tree Planting Guide

April Fruit Tree Planting Guide

April is a very important month in fruit tree management, especially in the middle and late part of the month. For fruit trees such as apples , grapes, citrus, cherries , and peaches, it is a critical period for budding, flowering, and fruit setting. It is also the initial infection period of diseases throughout the year. Therefore, the quality of recent management is directly related to the production benefits for the whole year. Fruit farmers must pay enough attention to it. Here is a guide to fruit tree planting in April.

1. There are some tips for watering

Key points for April: While ensuring the growth of fruit trees, reasonable water control and adjustment should be carried out according to rainfall conditions. Do not use well water. Many fruit farmers water their fruit trees heavily before they bloom, which is often unscientific.

Note: Don’t water blindly or follow the crowd. It is important to observe the condition of your own fruit trees.

Second, fertilization should be controlled

Key points for April: Carry out balanced fertilization based on the tree vigor, base fertilizer usage, and germination fertilizer usage in the previous year. Do not take excessively, make up for what you lack. Many orchards generally apply too much fertilizer, which leads to nutritional imbalance in the soil.

Note: Balanced fertilization ≠ balanced fertilizer application. Organic fertilizer must be fermented before use. Unfermented organic fertilizer will damage or burn the roots.

3. Disease prevention is the key

Key points for April: Garden cleaning must be done thoroughly, pay attention to weather and actual conditions, and be careful to alternate the use of pesticides.

The flowering period is the initial infection period of diseases throughout the year. The rise in temperature, germination and leaf expansion all provide a suitable reproduction and sufficient food for pests and diseases. In addition to paying attention to strengthening spraying protection and treatment before and after the rain, you must also clearly remember what diseases and pests have occurred in the past and what medicines have been used before, so try to rotate and use them alternately the next time you use the medicine.

Note: Prevention is the key. If you do a good job of preventing diseases during the flowering period, the number of diseases throughout the year can be reduced by at least 80%.

4. Frost must be prevented

Key points for April: Prevent cold waves and prepare countermeasures. Frost prevention can delay flowering (whitening), change the microclimate (fumigation), and spray nutrient solution (plant regulator).

Note: When late frost or severe frost occurs, effective measures should be taken in time to save the trees, and every effort should be made to protect the remaining fruits on the trees, so that they can grow bigger and better and meet the standards of high-quality fruit, so as to sell them at a good price and minimize the losses caused by frost.

5. Pruning

Key points for April: Knowing the right measure and leaving appropriate buds are the prerequisites for high and stable yields.

The main tasks for grape vines are: bud removal, tip determination and pinching. The main work on citrus: removing and pruning the tops. Peaches, apples, cherries, etc.: remove buds, carve buds, and prune again before flowering.

Note: Basically every fruit tree needs to be pruned, but the pruning methods are different. Choose the most appropriate pruning method based on type, variety, etc.
