How to grow Calla Lily and what to pay attention to

Growth habits of calla lily

Calla lily likes a warm, humid and sunny environment. The suitable growth temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees. When the ambient temperature is above 25 degrees or below 5 degrees, it is forced to hibernate. It likes a humid environment. After the tubers enter a dormant state during the high temperature period in summer, watering should be reduced. It is suitable for planting in fertile, water-retaining clay loam with good pH between 6.0 and 6.5.

Light requirements: Calla lily likes sunlight and needs sufficient sunlight in winter. If the maintenance environment is dark, the number of flowers will be small. However, when the light intensity is very strong in summer, appropriate shade should be provided.

How to grow Calla Lily

Calla lily is suitable for planting in acidic soil with good air permeability and drainage. It can be mixed with garden soil, leaf mold and a small amount of organic fertilizer. The growth temperature is 22-30 degrees. It can be maintained in semi-shade, avoid strong light, water the outer surface to keep the pot soil moist, pay attention to frequent application of thin fertilizers, and apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Poor ventilation during the growing season will cause pests, so spray an appropriate amount of medicine.

Watering Calla Lily: Calla Lily likes a humid environment. It would rather be wet than dry during its growth period. A dry environment is not conducive to its growth, but there should not be too much water. If water accumulates, it will cause root rot.

Fertilizing Calla Lily: During the growth period of Calla Lily, it should be supplemented with nutrients in time. Liquid fertilizer can be used once every half a month or so. In order to make it bloom better, it is necessary to change to fertilizer mainly composed of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. This can better promote the differentiation of flower buds. When fertilizing, do not apply it to the petiole, otherwise it will easily rot.

Calla lily cuttings: Calla lily cannot be propagated by cuttings. The main method of propagation of Calla lily is by dividing bulbs, and the best time is in the warm spring.

Notes on Calla Lily Care

Calla lily is not very resistant to severe cold, so it needs to be moved indoors for maintenance in October. In addition to shading it in the summer, it also needs to be sprayed with water to cool it down and keep it moist. When it is blooming, it needs to be given plenty of sunlight, with 3-5 hours of light per day.
