At present, the production of peppers basically adopts the planting method of raising seedlings first and then transplanting. Therefore, seedling raising technology is an extremely important step in pepper planting. So what are the time and method for growing pepper seedlings ? Let’s learn more about it below. Pepper seedling raising time The best time to grow pepper seedlings is in early spring, February to March. This is the time when all things grow, and strong seedlings can be cultivated under low temperatures, which can be put on the market early to increase planting returns. Pepper seedling cultivation method 1. Preparation before seedling raising (1) Seedling tray: The size of the seedling tray is generally 54cm×28cm. The required number should be calculated based on the actual situation. Usually there should be about 72 seedling holes on the tray. (2) Seedling medium: The medium can generally be self-prepared. Common formulas include: peat, perlite , and straw fermentation mixed in a ratio of 1:1:1. 2. Loading and pressing pit Put the substrate into the hole tray, flatten it and pat it down, then place them one by one in a pile of 10, and manually press out sowing holes with a depth of 1-1.50 cm. Then arrange the hole trays filled with substrate, spray water for a few minutes with sprinkler facilities before sowing, spray the substrate thoroughly, and wait for sowing. 3. Seed treatment Dry the seeds for 2 days before sowing, soak them in clean water for 3-4 hours, then soak them in 10% trisodium phosphate 1000 times aqueous solution for 10 minutes, wash them with clean water, and then soak them in 55℃ warm water for 10 minutes, stirring constantly and replenishing warm water at any time to maintain the water temperature at 55℃. Then take out the seeds and germinate them for 24 hours before sowing. 4. Sowing and seedling raising Sow the germinated seeds in the sowing pit, put 2-3 pepper seeds in each seedling hole, cover them with culture soil, spray a small amount of water and cover them with a layer of mulch. 5. Transplanting and planting Pepper seedlings can be transplanted when they have 5-6 leaves, 1 heart and are 15-20cm tall. However, the soil moisture should not be too high during or after planting, especially in greenhouse fields with heavy soil, and care should be taken to prevent the occurrence of diseases. In general, doing a good job in pepper seedling cultivation is the basic condition for cultivating strong seedlings, and it plays an important role in improving the yield and quality of greenhouse peppers in the later stage. The most mainstream seedling raising method in current production is the plug tray matrix seedling raising technology, so it is very important to choose the plug tray and matrix before raising the seedlings.
