How to take care of newly bought Vanda orchids

How to take care of newly bought Vanda orchids

1. Likes sunlight and more sun exposure

Although Vanda belongs to the category of orchids, the plant itself particularly likes the sun. When caring for it at home, it is necessary to give the plant sufficient natural light. Only when the weather is hot in summer will 30% of the light be blocked, and there is no need for shading in other seasons.

2. Moderate temperature

The most suitable growth temperature for Vanda orchid is 20-30℃. When the temperature is lower in winter, be sure to move the potted plants to a warm place indoors to allow the Vanda orchid to overwinter safely and avoid frost damage. The maintenance temperature in winter must not be lower than 10℃.

3. Water appropriately

Vanda orchids grow fastest at 20-30℃. Touch the planting material of Vanda orchids, such as sphagnum moss and tree bark, with your hand. If the material feels dry, water it thoroughly. Vanda orchid grows slowly at 15-20℃, so watering should be reduced appropriately. When the temperature is below 15℃, stop watering and only spray water.

4. Humidity should be high

Vanda is an epiphytic orchid, which means that the plant itself needs a high-humidity environment, especially in the summer when the temperature is high and the light is strong. It is best to keep the air humidity at 80%-90%. In addition, pay attention to adequate ventilation to prevent root and stem rot of the plants.

5. Apply thin fertilizer frequently

The Vanda orchids sold on the market are usually grown with sphagnum moss, which itself has little nutrients. Therefore, during normal maintenance, you must fertilize frequently and apply liquid fertilizer once every half a month at the temperature most suitable for Vanda's growth, with a light concentration.
