Planting methods and techniques of lucky bamboo

Lucky bamboo is a popular indoor foliage plant, favored for its evergreen leaves and convenient hydroponic cultivation. But some friends may encounter problems with yellow leaves and slow growth during the maintenance process. Let’s learn the planting methods and techniques of lucky bamboo.

1. Water level control

When hydroponically cultivating lucky bamboo, the water should not be added to more than half of the bottle, so as to avoid long-term immersion of the bamboo stem, affecting its respiration and photosynthesis, and causing rot. The correct way is to let the bottom two to three sections, about ten centimeters, be immersed in water. This can not only promote rooting but also ensure the healthy growth of the root system.

2. Water quality selection

Lucky bamboo prefers slightly acidic water in the south. The water quality in the north is alkaline, which may inhibit root growth and nutrient absorption, leading to yellow leaves. It is recommended to use purified water or mineral water, and regularly add a small amount of vinegar or chelated iron to the water to maintain the water slightly acidic and promote the greenness of the leaves.

3. Water temperature regulation

Water temperatures vary greatly between winter and summer, and using unregulated water directly may damage the root system. The water should be placed indoors in advance and replaced after its temperature is close to room temperature to reduce the temperature difference shock to the root system.

4. Water and fertilizer management

It is difficult to meet the growth needs of lucky bamboo by relying solely on nutrients in the water. It is necessary to add nutrient solution regularly, but frequent excessive additions should be avoided to avoid root burn. It is recommended to add a few drops of nutrient solution each time you change the water to provide the right amount of nutrients.

The above are the maintenance principles of lucky bamboo. In addition, the room temperature should not be lower than ten degrees in winter so as not to affect its growth. When placing the lucky bamboo, it should be kept away from radiation sources and given appropriate light, so that the lucky bamboo can remain healthy for a long time and even bloom.
