Three common bulb propagation techniques for freesia bulb germination methods

Before planting freesia bulbs, germinate them first. This will increase the survival rate of freesia bulbs, increase the germination speed, and shorten the growth cycle.

Freesia germination time

Freesia likes to grow in an environment with low temperature and high air humidity, so freesia grows most vigorously in autumn. It is very suitable for planting in September and October. The germination time can be chosen a few days before you want to sow.

Germination Technology of Freesia Bulbs

1. Greenhouse germination

Greenhouse germination is one of the methods for germinating freesia bulbs, and it is also a relatively simple method. It mainly involves selecting mature seeds in May and June, placing the seeds on gauze in a dark environment, watering them every day to keep them moist, and controlling the temperature at around 20°C. They will germinate evenly after about 3 weeks.

2. Wet sand treatment

Select healthy and plump seeds of freesia, mix them with moist sand, add a small amount of water to keep them moist, use your hands to pinch the sand into a ball without dripping, place it in a mild environment and shade it, and it will germinate and take root in about 1 month.

3. Use paper towel to germinate

The paper towel method is also a common method for germinating freesia bulbs. First, choose a clean container, cover the bottom of the pot with a layer of paper towels, spray a small amount of water on the paper towels, and keep it moist. Place the bulbs on the paper towels, cover them with plastic wrap, and place them in a warm place. They will germinate in about 3 to 4 weeks.
