Okra growth environment conditions and characteristics

Okra growth environment conditions and requirements

Okra is a vegetable that can be eaten raw or fried. Okra is widely grown, mostly in Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei, Yunnan and Guangdong. Generally, okra likes to grow in a warm environment.

Okra growth temperature

Okra likes warmth and has poor cold resistance, but has strong heat resistance. The seeds will germinate when the ambient temperature is 15 degrees. Generally, the most suitable growth temperature for okra is 25-30 degrees. When the monthly average temperature is lower than 17 degrees, the flowering and fruiting time of okra will be affected.

Okra growth humidity

Okra has good moisture resistance, but is afraid of waterlogging. Therefore, for better growth of the okra plant, the soil needs to be kept moist at all times. The humidity of the environment can be around 80%. When the climate is dry, it can be increased by spraying water mist.

Okra growing soil

Okra does not have very high requirements for soil when planting, and it has good adaptability to the soil. It is generally more suitable to be planted in sandy loam with deep soil, loose, fertile and good drainage. In addition, nitrogen fertilizer can be applied in the early stage of growth, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can be applied after flowering.

Okra growth cycle and process

The growth cycle of okra is very short, generally 3 or 4 months is enough. Okra is usually sown and planted in spring. Under suitable environmental conditions, it only takes half a month to germinate and can be harvested in autumn.
