How to propagate the lucky tree?

1. Seed propagation

Before planting the lucky tree, you need to collect seeds. Usually in December, after the fruit cracks and the seeds mature, they are dried and the seeds are taken out. After the seed wings are removed, they are stored dry and wait until sowing in spring. To promote its germination, you can soak it for 2-3 hours, take it out and let it dry, mix it with sand and sprinkle it on the seedbed, cover it with a layer of fine soil, and cover it with a film to keep it moist. After the seedlings emerge, remove the film, provide appropriate shade, and then plant them in pots when they grow 4-5 leaves.

2. Layering propagation

Layering of the lucky tree is usually carried out in March and April. Choose two-year-old strong branches and ring-bark them from below the nodes with a width of two to three times the diameter. After peeling off the bark, you need to wrap the wound with peat soil or sandy loam, and knead it into a soil ball with a diameter of 8-10 cm, and wrap it with plastic film. Leave a water inlet at the top and water regularly to keep the soil moist. Roots usually form in late autumn, at which time the plant can be separated and planted.

3. Cutting propagation

The lucky tree can also be propagated by cuttings, usually in March and April, when the temperature should be around 15℃. First, cut a woody branch with a length of 15-20 cm, remove the leaves on it, and the lower incision is usually 0.5 cm below the node. Prepare loose and fertile sandy loam and insert the cuttings into it to a depth of about one-third or one-half of the length. After cuttings, spray water appropriately to keep the substrate moist. After roots grow, you can transplant them with soil.
