How to take care of the newly bought cactus

How to take care of the newly bought cactus

1. Postpone watering and fertilizing

Cacti have a strong ability to adapt to the environment and can adjust on their own after arriving in a new environment. Some flower lovers, seeing that its growth has stagnated or other "morbid" phenomena have appeared, rush to water and fertilize it, but the result is often counterproductive. Just be patient and wait for about a week for it to adapt to the environment at home.

2. Receive appropriate light

Newly purchased cacti should be placed in a cool and ventilated location to allow them to fully adapt to environmental changes. Remember not to place the cactus in the hot sun immediately just because you think it is drought- and sun-resistant because of the impression it has on the solid board. Otherwise, a series of problems will arise and it will take longer to adapt to the new environment.

3. Clean up colored stones and other decorations

The surface of the cactus soil bought from the flower shop is usually decorated with some colorful pebbles, etc., for the sake of beauty and to attract customers to buy it. In fact, these things are poisonous and can cause soil compaction and blockage, so it is necessary to carefully remove them with a small shovel, taking care not to damage the roots.

4. Soil Treatment

Stores and merchants in the market usually do not change the soil for cacti, which leads to the continuous accumulation of pathogens, eggs and worms in the soil. It is best to spray carbendazim, imidacloprid, etc. on the soil for disinfection and insecticide. In addition, if you need to check whether the ventilation holes at the bottom of the flower pot are blocked, you can poke holes with a toothpick.
