How to fertilize azalea and what to do if you overfertilize

How to fertilize azalea and what to do if you overfertilize

1. Fertilization method

1. Type: When fertilizing azalea, you should choose the type that suits it. Usually you can apply organic liquid fertilizer or organic fertilizer. Reasonable fertilization can be more conducive to its flowering.

2. Time: During the 3-5 years, you can apply fertilizer almost once a week. With sufficient nutrients, the plant will grow better. When the temperature rises in summer from June to August, it will go dormant. No fertilizer is needed at this time, otherwise the roots will be burned and turn yellow. In September of autumn, it will resume growth and you can apply liquid phosphorus fertilizer to it. You can stop fertilizing in October in autumn and winter, otherwise it will be difficult for the plant to survive the winter.

3. Amount of fertilizer: Generally, no fertilizer is needed for newly grown seedlings. The amount of fertilizer applied should be controlled at ordinary times. Usually, it should not exceed 20g each time. If excessive fertilizer is applied, the roots of the plant will also be burned.

2. What to do if you apply too much fertilizer

1. If excessive water-soluble fertilizer is applied, it can be flushed out by watering in large quantities. This way, the water can carry away the excess fertilizer and avoid damage to the plant's root system.

2. In order to prevent the plant roots from rotting, you can also water the plant with an appropriate amount of fungicide and rooting agent. It can effectively reduce bacterial growth, and the rooting agent can promote root recovery.

3. However, if unfermented fertilizer is applied, the plant must be removed from the pot and the old soil must be replaced. If the roots are rotten, they need to be pruned and disinfected, and then repotted.
