Tips for breeding hamsters in large quantities

Tips for breeding hamsters in large quantities

Hamsters are small, lively and agile, and are one of the most popular pets. Many farmers have also begun to breed hamsters in large numbers, but in order to achieve large-scale breeding of hamsters, they must choose high-quality breeds. Below, the editor will introduce some techniques for breeding hamsters in large quantities. Let’s take a look.

1. Breeding environment

The most suitable temperature for raising hamsters is 20-28℃. Hamsters are very sensitive to temperature, so avoid placing them in direct sunlight or direct wind. In summer, you can use marble and other things to cool down your hamster. Special attention should be paid to prevent the hamster from catching a cold because it cannot adapt to the temperature difference when the air conditioner is turned on and off. In winter, you should put more sawdust, cotton and other bedding materials in the hamster cage to keep the hamster warm. You can also put the cage directly into a cardboard box, but pay attention to ventilation.

2. Feeding management

The staple food of hamsters should be mainly whole grains, such as cereals, corn, millet, etc. For side dishes, you can choose fresh vegetables and fruits to allow your baby to ingest an appropriate amount of plant fiber. However, some vegetables and fruits that contain too much water, such as watermelon, should not be fed. You can also choose sesame seeds, melon seeds, peanuts and other nuts with high oil content as snacks, but feed them occasionally and not too much, otherwise it will easily cause adverse reactions such as laxative. In addition, you can also feed hamsters milk tablets , cheese , etc. as nutritional supplements, but remember that hamsters should not eat too much of this kind of food. Generally, they can only eat more in specific circumstances such as when the mother hamster needs a lot of supplements after giving birth.

3. Reasonable breeding

Carry out breeding management reasonably. When breeding, choose hamsters of appropriate age and good health for mating. Hamsters have a strong reproductive capacity and can produce 5-10 puppies in one litter. In order to ensure the quality of breeding, cross-breeding can be adopted to avoid inbreeding.

4. Breeding tools

The hamster's cage should be changed according to the temperature. In summer, the first choice is a ventilated wire cage, or a half-iron and half-rubber cage. Considering the warmth factor in winter, you should choose a cage made of all rubber and ventilated on the top, and put more bedding such as sawdust on the bottom of the cage to keep the hamster warm. As for tableware, generally small containers such as soy sauce dishes, small food storage boxes, etc. can be used as long as they are not easy to tip over and the edges are not too high. The running wheel is an indispensable toy for hamsters, but the owner should pay attention to purchasing a seamless running wheel to avoid injury to the hamster.

5. Notes

When breeding hamsters in large numbers, it is necessary to select healthy breeders to ensure their good genetic quality. Provide adequate food and water, maintain good sanitary conditions, and clean the cage regularly. Master breeding techniques, understand the breeding cycle and breeding behavior of hamsters, and arrange breeding reasonably. Separate the cubs in time to avoid fighting between the same sex. Check and treat diseases regularly to keep your hamster colony healthy.

The above are some tips for mass breeding of hamsters. Hamsters can also suffer from some common diseases, such as colds, diarrhea, etc. Breeders should take hamsters for veterinary examinations regularly and pay attention to hygiene and epidemic prevention work to reduce the occurrence of diseases.
