How to grow osmanthus?

1. Prefer slightly acidic soil

The sweet-scented osmanthus grown in northern regions is generally alkaline, and sweet-scented osmanthus cannot grow well in such soil.

Therefore, add 2 to 3 drops of vinegar every time you water the osmanthus.

Alternatively, you can mix ferrous sulfate in a ratio of 1:1000 and irrigate the roots once every half a month.

2. Prefers hot and dry environment.

Be careful when watering osmanthus and remember the principle of "two more and one less": water less before new shoots sprout, water less on rainy days, and water more during droughts in summer and autumn. The normal principle of watering is to keep the soil moist. Water it about once every 3 to 5 days.

3. Sufficient fertilizer will lead to more flowers

After germination in spring, apply fully decomposed thin cake fertilizer water or pig manure liquid once every 10 days.

After July, it is best to replace the fertilizer with compound organic fertilizer.

In early September, apply the last fertilizer, which should be mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. You can use fully decomposed fish and shrimp shells, egg shells, etc.

How to propagate osmanthus by cuttings?

1. Choose strong branches grown in the current year, and choose semi-woody ones, which are easier to survive.

2. Cut into 10 cm to 12 cm long, cut the lower end into a horseshoe shape close to the node, and leave 2 to 3 leaves at the upper end.

3. Prepare pure perlite, or pure vermiculite, river sand is also OK. This kind of particles are easier to root.

4. Soak the wounds of the cuttings in carbendazim for 20 to 30 minutes for disinfection.

5. Insert the branches into the substrate. Remember to cover them with a layer of water-retaining film of perlite to prevent water from evaporating too quickly.

6. It will take root in about 1 month. After rooting, change to a new pot and plant it.
