Yellow scour of suckling pigs, also known as early-onset Escherichia coli disease, is an acute, fatal infectious disease of newborn piglets caused by Escherichia coli. It is one of the important infectious diseases that endanger suckling pigs. It is most common in pigs aged 1-4 days and is more common in summer. So what are the treatment measures for yellow diarrhea in suckling pigs in summer? Let’s learn more about it below. 1. Main symptoms The main symptom is yellow diarrhea. The feces are mostly yellow and watery, containing small pieces of curd, mixed with small bubbles and with a fishy smell. It flows down the anus and there is usually no trace of feces left around, so it is easy to be ignored. When diarrhea is severe, the tip of the gilt's vulva may appear red and the hind legs may be stained with feces. The sick piglets were depressed, refused to eat, were thirsty and dehydrated, but did not vomit, and eventually fell into a coma and died. 2. Causes Sows are the main source of infection for this disease, followed by sick piglets. The bacteria are spread to the outside world through feces, contaminating the sow's skin and nipples. When piglets suck or lick the sow's skin, they are infected through the digestive tract. If the sow's colostrum lacks antibodies to the disease, the bacteria can colonize on the small intestinal mucosa of the piglets and produce viruses. 3. Treatment measures 1. Good management For pregnant sows, it is necessary to strengthen feeding management, adjust feed reasonably, ensure the normal milk production of sows, and make the sows have good body condition and sufficient energy supply during pregnancy and lactation. For piglets, try to reduce stress, improve the pig house environment, and do a good job of preventing cold or heat. 2. Environmental hygiene Good environmental hygiene can obviously reduce the infection of E. coli in piglets. Low temperature stress and high humidity environment can reduce the piglets' resistance to E. coli. Therefore, doing a good job of insulation, regularly spraying Hushean to plant beneficial bacteria, and keeping the delivery room environment dry can obviously reduce the infection of E. coli. 3. Vaccine prevention Piglets can obtain maternal antibodies by consuming breast milk, so we can allow pregnant sows to obtain antibodies against E. coli and then pass the antibodies to piglets through breast milk. Specifically, the genetically engineered E. coli vaccine can be made one month before the sow gives birth. This method is quite effective in preventing jaundice in piglets. 4. Drug treatment You can use Li Ke Tai Bao, which can be taken orally. In severe cases, you can use the injection of Li Ke Tai Bao injection to treat diarrhea, which can stop diarrhea quickly. Antibiotics including erythromycin, oxytetracycline, streptomycin, etc. and anti-inflammatory drugs including chloramphenicol, sulfonamides, etc. can also be used for treatment. In general, yellow diarrhea in suckling pigs is a common disease, but as long as the feeding and management work is strengthened, the incidence of the disease can be effectively reduced. Once the piglets show similar symptoms, they must be treated early to avoid worsening of the disease.
